Congratulations! I was banded on the 10th. I wasn't allowed anything but ice chips and sips of Water for the first 24 hours.I had a swallow test the next morning ( that stuff is NASTY!!) before they would let me have anything, I couldn't stand the cotton mouth feeling. I was getting pretty dehydrated before I went home. I think I should have had more IV fluids than I received.

I brushed my teeth and rinsed my mouth and the nurses were realy good about bringing me fresh ice chips. I started chewing gum as soon as my swallow test was done. Peppermint gum seemed to help me.

I wish you a speedy recovery and great success! :D

I was just banded yesterday morning. For the dry mouth sugar free popciles have been a GOD send. I really havnt had much pain today and even wanted to walk down the street until my husband told me to take it easy for another couple of days and ending up zonking out on the couch.

Yay Cathy! You're on the other side now! I was the same with the ice chips, I slept a lot the first couple of days. If you're talking about your incisions hurting that's going to be a few weeks. A heating pad helps, and holding a small pillow against your stomach when you get up seemed to help me too, just be sure to keep up on your pain meds. And take it easy! Good luck with everything!!

I was banded March 20. For me, the stomach pains went away after a couple days and the gas pains dissipated after about 10 days or so. I did use a small pillow to hold against my tummy when getting up/down, laying in bed, or walking if my stomach hurt- the pressure seemed to ease the discomfort.

I would recommend drinking peppermint tea (supposed to help with gas pains) and making sure to drink all your necessary fluids. My dry mouth went away the first day.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
