What Is The Average Weight Loss In The First 4 Weeks?

Recommended Posts

I am traveling 4 weeks after surgery and I am hoping to have my new eating regiment somewhat worked out. I know there will be a lot of trial and error as well as new eating habits. I was also hoping to have lost a little before my big trip! Any advice??

Wont you be on liquids and mushies the first few weeks after surgery ?

A lot of people lose weight post op for the first few weeks till they are back eating normal food. Many dont feel satisfied or restricted yet, till the fills u will eventually get start kicking in .. so give yourself a chance to heal and dont concentrate too much on what the scales say :)

You new eating regime will come over time when u are able to start eating solid food and start feeling some restrictions

When will you begin your mushies phase? While I was on "mushies" everything I ate went through the blender. Maybe there needs to be a provision to make certain you will have with you what you need to prepare your meals...

dont forget to take several plastic grocery bags with you when you travel on the off chance you might have a bite of food get stuck. You might be needing a bag quickly if you slime, especially if you're just getting used to solids. Good luck !

Thanks everyone! Yes, I will be on liquids for the first 10-14days and I am sure I will be just starting mushies then a little solids while I am traveling. I really wanted to have this done at least 6 weeks before I left, but it did not work out that way. I could not get on the surgery schedule any earlier. I am just happy that it is finally happening, so I will take what I can get!!

My surgeon said not to expect any weight loss in the first 4-6 weeks, since the body is still in the healing stage. But I'm sure everyone is different.

My surgeon told me normally 1-2 pounds a week. But there will be plateaus. I have lost 81 pounds since December 2010...I chose to go slower with my fills. I didn't start excercisibg regularly unti this spring. I went from a size 24 to a size 12 ( some 14s) so in pretty satisfied. One regret, I don't excercise sooner:)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
