Great job, Joel. That's incredible! What's your secret? Have you completely changed what you eat, just less portions, or both? What exercise do you do?

Hope to be in your shoes one day :)

Hey guys, thank you all for the kind words. For everyone wondering how I did it, it's really simple, embrace the opportunity you have been given. The lap band was probably the smallest part of the reason I have lost 161 pounds so far. My doctor said, no sugar, no dairy, no more than 1200 calories a day. And that is exactly what I have done from oct 25th 2011. I made small goals for myself at 360 pounds. I could not run at that time, so I began walking daily about 2 miles. I stayed on low carb meal plans at 2 ounces per meal, 3 meals a day. Plus 3-4 Protein Shakes. My Protein is 120 cal per shake. I drink nothing but Water. No juice, no soda, no milk. I strength train 5 days a week for 65 minutes. And I run a total of 22 miles a week religiously. Those are the main reasons as to my weightloss. The lap band is the final decision maker as to the quantity of food I intake. Excersize burns off the fat. Anybody can do this if they embrace it fully. I give myself no breaks. It only opens doors to the bad foods and lazyness. A body in motion truly stays in motion. A lazy body becomes lazy. Any questions feel free to shoot them at me:)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
