Excess Skin After Weight Loss

Recommended Posts

Has anyone had weight loss success without alot of excess skin? I still have about 60-65lbs to lose, but I fear that I will always have a belly and I don't want to have a Tummy Tuck. Any suggesstions on how to minimize excess skin and avoid another surgery would be appreciated!!

Unfortunately according to my Plastic \Surgeon, u will either get loose skin or u wont and it is dependent on age, genetics and how much weight u have to lose and a lot of other factors to do with how your skin is made up.

Better to have loose skin and wear it as a badge of honour in relation to the weight u have lost than a mountain of fat that will never look anything other than how much u have eaten and not exercised.. not my view ofc but generally its people views :)

if you need to lose weight because of health reasons then looose skin should be the last thing on your mind, get used to wearing spandex and hopefully u wont have too much skin to deal with :)... unlike me ofc lol

One of the main things that will help you avoid excess skin as much as possible is strength training and weights. Although cardio is really important it is as equally important to lift weights as much as you do cardio. That way you will build lean muscle as you lose fat!

im interested as well. im 66 and my skin isnt as resilient as it used to be. this is one reason why i dont want to lose more than just over a pound a week. ive noticed though that where my skin was oily... and was a real asset as i got older, that its starting to dry out more now. has anyone else had this?

Possibly a change in hormones, diet, dehydration... All could make a difference to the skin... Be interested to know what others think...

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
