Hey everyone,

I had surgery a week ago (May 10th) and I'm still working on eating/drinking full liquids such as pureed Soup, malt-o-meal, applesauce, etc., and I'm having trouble getting this down, as well as just clear fluids like Water and broth. It feels like my esophagus is tight and occasionally I get hiccups. Sometimes it feels like heartburn but there's nothing in there to be causing heartburn. How is it possible that I'm having trouble getting liquids down when my band hasn't even been filled yet? I thought maybe I was eating too much but I never eat more than 1/2 cup of anything at one time. I'm thinking about going back to just Clear Liquids for a day or two but I'm worried because I'm struggling to get Protein. Any feed back? Can you relate? Suggestions?...

Please and thank you! :)

Your throat may still be swollen from surgery. Don't try to rush the process .slow and steady is best.

i agree with others replies here, you must have some swelling from surgery. A lot of us here have had it. i had it and had much the same problems that you are experiencing. Dont stress about it, just drink what you can when you can. YOu cant do any more than that, and time will heal, the swelling will go down, and you will find you will be able to tolerate a lot more liquid. good luck.

Yeah, it sort of feels like that. Mine has gotten a little better. Honestly, I think it has to do with drinking and eating a little too fast or taking too big of mouthfuls. Hope you feel better soon!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
