BesslerBanded 2 Posted May 17, 2012 So today is officially 1 week since I have been banded and guess who went to the Gym? This girl right here!!!!! :-) I didn't do anything too rigorous since I am still a little sore but I figured that I could get a head start. it felt soooo good. In addition, my "TOM" came today after being irregular for sooooo long! I am so happy. I can't believe what a difference 13pounds have made in a week. I mean I can't see a significant difference yet but it is definitely a good start. I think that working out and dropping the 13pounds had a lot to do with TOM showing up. Everyone has been telling me that I should start strength training as soon as I am not sore so that I can lose more weight and don't lose any muscle. Is that true? What have your experiences been? Can't wait to hear your feedback!

kah1213 311 Posted May 17, 2012 Do you have to be careful with abs and other bending due to the port? Curious.
BesslerBanded 2 Posted May 17, 2012 Yes. I have to be careful for now but eventually I will be able to bend more and workout my abs. Probably in another month.

honk 780 Posted May 17, 2012 I would not do weight training until you speak with the doctor or nurse practioner. I think at about day ten I moved from the treadmil to the elliptical machine. Though I had been using the elliptical presurgery, in addition to swimming (so it was'nt a shock to my system). I like the elliptical because it is easy on the knees. Some people have issues with it due to balance problems. So if you use one hold the handles (I don't) for now.
kah1213 311 Posted May 17, 2012 I was just at my pre op class today. The nurse said treadmill or elliptical or recumbent bike is good after the first week. Nothing too strenuous for a month tho, so it looks like my trainer wont see me for a few weeks!
BesslerBanded 2 Posted May 17, 2012 That's great to know but I'm wondering If I over did it today with 50 minutes worth of Zumba!! Lol. I know I should be taking it easy but I feel like every time I move it is one more step towards me being more healthy!
