New Mom Soon To Have Band

Recommended Posts

Hello!!

I'm so excited to get the ball rolling on this. I've been looking into getting a lap band for the last 5 years and i'm finally going to do it. We're just working out a few last minute payment questions and then we'll have all the who, when and where's.I'm just so excited.

Although i'll have help from my parents, my biggest concern is caring for my son post op. I'm a single mom and he's currently 7 months old. I would like to meet and talk to others in a similar situation as mine.

I'm looking forward to starting this journey.

Congrats on the start of your WLS journey! You'll get more replies to your question about caring for your son if you edit the title of this thread to include the question, such as "child care during recovery" or something like that.

I didn't have an infant to care for but bending over, reaching, turning, and lifting can all be uncomfortable when you're a new post-op, so you're wise to start thinking about this issue in advance. Also, I wouldn't want to be left alone to care for a baby when I'm taking narcotic pain relievers.

good luck!

Thank you for your advice! I am concerned about being able to bend, play, pick him up, and overall taking care of the little guy. I'll be staying with my parents the first week or so post op so big help there. We co-sleep right now but we're working on it because i absolutely wont when i'm on the narcotics.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
