Anyone Having This Problem???... Posting For A Friend

Recommended Posts

I had Acid Reflux before getting my lap band. My Doctor repaired a large Hiatal Hernia also. Since I have had my band my Tongue and

Mouth still burn and sting (a sympton I had from the Acid Reflux). Sometimes after eating I still have this sympton with Fire coming

up my chest. My doctor says there is no way I could have Acid Reflux since I had the Hernia repaired and I also have the lap band. He

has had me drink barium infront of the x-ray machine on several occassions. In the beginning you could see the barium go to where the

Hernia repair was and then it would shoot back up to my throat. My doctor said that was because of the Hernia repair and the swelling

I had in there. Since then, he has done 2 Endoscopies on me and wants to do one more. I really do not want to have another one done.

It was painful especially the second one. Does anyone else have this type of problem? I have been burning since last night and have been

drinking Malox but that does not help much.

hello,

I am not having your problem, but I did want to let you know I read your post and hope your doc can figure it out. I was on Prilosec for 13 years and luckily have had no problems since my surgery - 13 days ago. I also had a hernia repair. My main problem right now is I get a lot of gas. I burp constantly and also the other end,. It's very embarrasing. Did you have a problem with gas after your surgery? If so, how did you get it to stop?

I'd ask my doc for a trial run of Prilosec... If it works, there's your diagnosis... Obviously I'm not a doctor, and I'm not advocating taking unnecessary medicine, but if this doesn't hurt you, why not try it...

To me that makes no sense, that the barium is coming back up your throat an he said it's not reflux. How can there still be swelling when it appears you had your surgery in 2010. I had a hiatal hernia repair too and have not had reflux since. I did have some heartburn shortly after surgery, but not since. I think you should get a second opinion and probably take some prilosec or pepcid.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
