How Do You Know If Your Band Has Slipped?

Recommended Posts

I have been having some on an off nagging pain kind of off to the left of my stomach. It isn't everyday, but it almost feels like a pulled muscle, tomorrow I may not feel it all then in a few days it will be back. When I take a deep breath is when it really hurts. Anyone got any ideas? At first I was concernted of my band slipping, but I would think there would be issues with eating and I haven't had any other symptoms. Then I thought maybe it was my gallbladder, but they say it's off to the right of your stomach.

yes, you would have food issues and liquid for that matter (typically anyway)

A slip, usually, will cause problems w=eating and drinking. You might, also, get night GERD, and coughing slime. If you think you have a slip, see your surgeon. But, it doens't sound like a slip. My gallbladder, on the other hand, pain was in the middle of my chest. I did not have pain on the right or left. And didn't want to eat, anything, while I was having an attack. Best wishes, Karen

Symptoms of a band slip usually include eating problems, possibly with pain or pressure in the center of your chest.

Did you have a hiatal hernia repaired when your band was placed? Because I've heard that can cause discomfort in that area. I have an untreated hiatal hernia and when it's complaining, I get a painful pulling sensation at the top left side of my abdomen, right under my rib cage.

I had a hiatal hernia repair. I'm going to chalk it up to that since it's lessening the longer I go.

I just found out my band slipped but I haven't had any issues. I got where I could eat a little more and went for a fill. I could eat with no issues but it was a little harder to drink my Water. They did a barium swallow and showed normal. Then they made me eat this thick oatmeal and it showed that my esophagus had dilated. They took 1 cc of Fluid out. Then I made an appointment to go see my surgeon and he had me go do an upper GI. That's what showed my band had slipped. I do not have a lot of the symptoms other people describe, no throwing up, reflux, nothing, just got where sometimes the band was tight and some times not.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
