Hello everyone ! I'm new to the lap band process my first appointment is Friday and I meet with the nutritionist tomorrow. I am trying to lose weight on my own before my surgery just to get in the swing of things and I am failing miserably I feel like such a loser. I try so hard to control my eating but It's really hard some days I do go other I don't. I do however get to the gym atleast THREE times a week it's kind of hard I have 3 jobs and a four month old. sorry just needed to let this out thanks for listening

Just try to take it slow. We all get very excited when we make the dicision to get the band and jump in with both feet first. You are smart to start making changes now so it doesn't feel as if everything changes at one time. Just remember for some the inability to stay on a strict diet is the reason they seek the band. If you are one of those individuals, then you are just repeating the same problem that you have had all along. So don't beat yourself up about it. Try changing just one thing a week. Stop drinking sodas, start making sure you are getting 70g of Protein every day, start cutting out bad carbs, .....if you do these things one at a time you might not feel as if you are dieting so much...but just making life style changes.

I will also tell you, from my personal experience....I wish I would have exbraced the high protein/ low carb thing a long time ago. Before surgery. I think I might have been able to keep a lot of weight off years ago. I know for some people it hasn't been as sucessful, but for me...my body loves it!! And responds well.

Even the Protein shakes...as much as I don't "love" the way they taste, they sure do help with hunger. They may be something worth trying before you get the band as well.

Good luck...if you eve need to talk, just inbox me.

Ask your doctor if they require meetings with a psychologist who specializes in eating disorders. If not ask for a referral and go on your own. In my first consult I said "I am the healthiest eating fat person I know!" My problem was mindless eating of my "trigger foods". I would have no less then 3 open bags of low fat crackers, chips, etc in my house at any given time (and I live alone). I would rationalize they were low fat (or low suger like reduced cal. ice cream). I would use this as an excuse to eat more since it was "reduced calorie". I would eat however half a bag of crackers or chips at a time.

As for food choices if you would be embarrased for your doctor to see something don't buy it! Probably the biggest piece of advice I could give you both pre and post op is to plan your food in advance. When I don't plan is when I get into trouble. If you don't bring an apple, Protein shake, Protein Bar along you are more likely to buy unhealthy Snacks.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
