Everyone Experiences Hair Loss?

Recommended Posts

Hello All,

I have my surgeon consult Thursday where I expect to pick a surgery date.

I was wondering if EVERYONE experiences Hair loss. Is there anyone out there that has lost weight at a fast or steady pace that can say they did not experience hair loss? I have about 70 lbs to lose.

This really concerns me as I do not have much hair to lose. I would feel better knowing there is a "chance" I lose hair, not that it is inevitable.

THANKS!

Laura

Nope, not me.

Once or twice though, my hair has gone through a stage of being in really horrible condition and having increased fall. But I have never even approached what I would call Hair loss.< /p>

For me, the first time was about eighteen months after surgery (and six months after I'd had bio ionic straightening done). I was just working SO hard to keep it conditioned, it was dry, ratty and thin on the ends. I ended up cutting off all the hair that had been straightened.

The next time was many years later, the condition didnt get as bad, but the fall increased again. I was having treatment for cancer, but the chemo I had didnt cause hair loss - for me it was rock bottom Iron levels. Since then, I've struggled to keep my iron levels up and each time they fall too much - lots of breakage and fall out.

My hair has never fallen out from the root- it breaks and thins out that way. But never noticeable noticeably so I get bald spots - just enough that hubby starts to go nuts at all the hair on the floor and all over the basin in the bathroom!

So for me - iron is key to preventing hair problems.

I've had a gazillion surgeries since my band surgery and dont lose hair after an anaesthetic.

If you do not eat enough Protein, then you may lose hair. It seems a lot of us take Biotin to prevent Hair loss.< /p>

I didn't lose any hair. But I lost my weight pretty slowly. I know I don't get in the Protein intake I'm sposed to, but I never lost any hair. My doc recommends the special Shampoo that you get at the hairdressers. Can't remember the name. Anyone remember?

Good luck!

Marci

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
