Need Some Help And Words Of Encouragement

Recommended Posts

I am struggling and I need some help and words of encouragement. I too cannot eat bread, and had to have some Fluid removed last month. I have gained 6 pounds and am very discouraged. I know that I forget to slow down when I eat and that gets me into trouble.

Please post your thoughts and what you have done to get back on track. I had my band surgery in Feb 2008.

Thanks,

Laura

Are you weighing yor Protein? My doctor says 3 oz. Prepare your protein in a low fat/cal/carb manner. Eat the protein first and then eat low fat/cal veggies (I prefer raw) until full. While I can eat bread, Pasta, white potatos I choose not to due to the carbs.

I've heard that a good way to slow down during meals is to eat with your non-dominant hand. Also try putting your fork down in between bites.

Take a good look at what you're eating. Is it mostly solid Protein and veggies, or are you eating more sliders? Don't worry about not being able to eat bread...I don't eat it at all because it's just not worth it. Also try bumping up your exercise a little and make sure you're drinking enough Water.< /p>

Don't be discouraged. It's 6 pounds, not 60, so at least you're on top of the situation before it gets out of hand. You can get back on track...believe in yourself!

Take your time. Be there when you eat( being mindful). Put your fork down between bites. Take the time to cut really small pieces then use chop sticks to slow you down at the beginning

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
