ccsbulldog 59 Posted May 14, 2012 i had to buy shakes for my pre op diet from my doctor. After surgey I have been drinking carnation sugar free drinks with 1% milk. Each packet has 5 grams of Protein and 1 cup of 1% milk has 8 grams of protein. I tried both ensure and the special k drinks and had a hard time with the taste of each. Good luck. Cnewme2012 11 Posted May 14, 2012 The first three days after surgery I was on a clear liquid diet, which consist of, apple, cranberry, and grape juices, clear broth, I made chicken broth before hand and froze it in the baggies, sugar free popsicles and sugar free Jello. This is all I could have the first three days after surgery. I actually did not have much of an appetite those first three days. After the three day clear liquid diet, I then progressed to full liquid. This is the stage where I began my Protein Shakes. I use an inexpensive brand from Walmart, Body Fortress, its not bad. I wish you the best of luck on your new journey.

Grandma3 73 Posted May 14, 2012 I got my Protein Powder from my doctors office prior to surgery. Since then I heard people talking about the Premier Protein shakes that you see advertised on this forum. I think they taste like chocolate milk and they fill me up. jen_1381 446 Posted May 15, 2012 A tip that may help with the Protein shakes - my dietician suggested buying some sugar free coffee syrups (like the Torrani that come in 100s of flavors) and add a little to a vanilla Protein shake if the shakes alone get dull to you. Don't add too much - the chemical that makes them sugar free can cause diarrhea - but enough for flavor helps with the blandness that can come along. I have to do 2 weeks of full liquids, which is basically just Protein drinks or Tomato soup! As far as other foods - for the full liquid portion most dieticians allow yogurt as long as there are no chunks or seeds (vanilla, honey, coffee flavor, etc). Tomato Soup (but watch the calorie count in that - I purchased Campbells plain Tomato over Cream of Tomato and saved myself 120 calories per serving). Also, Carnation Instant Breakfast mixed with Skim or 1% milk is allowed on my plan. Keep in mind, every plan is different though. Good luck!
