How long does the area where the port is located hurt. Mine is hard and sore. Is this normal? How long will this last?

Mine is too had it done November 2011. Doc says the hardness is scar tissue which actually helps solidify the port and keep it in place. Mine isn't really sore but I do have discomfort when I lay on my stomach with my weight on that side . If you have continuing soreness I would follow up with the doctor.
