Surgery Set For June 12, 2012

Recommended Posts

I am so excited and eagerly awaiting my surgery on June 12th! I do however, have a couple of questions...... 1. How soon did you all start exercising after surgery? 2. Was/is the "mental" part hard for you?

Congrats on your date! I am getting my band June 22nd!

My friend was banded May 11th and I was at her appointment. The surgeon said to start walking right away, even if it is just a little bit you need to get moving. I know you cant swim until atleast a week afterwards but I think for anything else it would just be what you feel you are up to doing. No one knows your body better than you do!

Good luck!!

Congrats to you! My surgery is set for June 26, 2012 (though I'm trying to get it moved to an earlier date...we'll see).

Thanks AlleyKat! That makes perfect sense. :) My doctor said the same thing, as far as starting walking right away to deal with soreness, prevent bloodclots, etc. But I was wondering the approximate time of when everyone started with other stuff like aerobics, weight lifting, etc. But what you said as far as no one knows our body like we do is exactly right. I just never thought of it that way I guess. :)

Congrats on your date too! And good luck!

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
