You're human and sometimes you're going to give in and splurge. Don't beat yourself up over it!

Once a month I allow myself one splurge meal of whatever I want. I don't count calories and I don't care how "bad" it is for me. I have done this monthly since I was back on solid foods after being banded and I honestly think it's helped. I don't feel deprived and because I'm allowing it I don't feel guilty either.

You're doing great, don't let one meal mess with your head :)

Don't beat yourself up over it. It happens. Just pick yourself up and get back on the program. Just be more careful in the future. You'll be just fine!

My patient advocate at my Dr office told me that when he had the surgery he decided he was done with dieting. He was just going to eat small amounts and follow the rules. He said there is no meal off limits (unless it gets stuck), he just eats small abouts that fit into the rules and makes the majority of all his meals healthy. If he slowed in weight loss he made adjustments. I would not look at it as a cheat. Just adjust and move on.

I tend to follow his advice. I dont want to diet anymore, I just want to eat way less and make healthier choices. I am tired of the mental game I have played my whole life.

Amen to all that has been said. I've always believed in a free day............I mean, we have to live this way, it's not a 6 mos.diet! I always find when I hv my free meal, it is not so good as I remember and the forbidden fruit allure is gone! Don't sweat the small stuff. Plan for a weak moment and move on! :)

I follow Heidi Klum's (look at her body and after three kids) diet plan: follow your diet plan 6 days a week then on Sunday eat whatever you want. Studies have soon that when you follow a very strict and restrictive diet plan when you cheat you cheat bigger than those who give into to their carvings in small amounts. Meaning if you eat that small piece of chocolate when you really want it, it will prevent you from eating the entire bag later. This works for me. Don't beat yourself up. If you wanted to be only follow your diet perfectly well don't you want to occasionally enjoy your food and eat what you really love?

I agree with sam3841, I have done this and has worked for me so far. I also found that when I plateau I can replace one meal with a Cappuccino Protein Shake and a small banana and it jumps starts my weight loss again. Don't beat yourself up and good luck!

So thankful for this site I don't have anyone to talk to bout this so all your words helped a lot :)

I'm glad you are feeling better. My dietician also wants me to look at this as a lifestyle change and not as a diet. I've embraced that idea and don't feel deprived or guilty if I allow myself to indulge, although I do not indulge all of the time. I also try to practice mindful eating instead of zoning out and eating like a crazy person.

We did not learn our eating habits in two months and we are surely not going to change them in that time. Next time

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
