Trying to decide--Adam Smith vs. Dr. Jay

Recommended Posts

I'm in the final stages of choosing a doctor. I've read lots of good stuff about Dr. Adam Smith, DO, in FW/Hurst and Dr. Jayaseelan in Dallas. Does anyone have anything negative I should know about either of these guys? Or feel really strongly that I should pick one over the other? Thanks for your feedback.

Also, if there are any Waco people on here who want to get together, let me know.

Martha,

I'm using Dr. Adam Smith in Ft. Worth. He and his staff have been extremely helpful and supportive. I read and researched a lot of the doctors in the area. I went to the info seminar that he gave in Hurst and really liked what he had to say. He didn't sugar coat anything and he himself has been banded. That also helped with my decision because I know that he understands what it's like to be obese.

Everyone in the office that I have dealt with has been super nice and very supportive. They have responded quickly to emails and phone calls. The nurse that I saw on my first consultation with Dr. Smith had very good things to say about him and she knew him before he was banded.

Good luck with your decision.

I was banded by Dr. Jay on January 19, 2006 and I must say that I would highly recommed him because he was very thorough and he answered all my questions. His office staff is wonderful and they have to been banded so they can relate to what we go through as we experience this ourselves.. I got right in and didn't have any problems with insurance as a matter of fact medicaid paid for my lapband and all I have to pay is the 2000.00 program fee and I am paying that out until I can get financing so Dr. Jay' s office is there for you and to help you start a new life ... I think he is the best and I would highly recommend him to anyone who is thinking about having this surgery ..

My dr. was adam smith. and after my surgery I became ill. I called him and he was in Houston at the time. He told me to go to the hospital and that he would call them. Then late that afternoon he come walking in. He had come back from Houston and still took the time to come and check on me. He said he likes taking care of his own. I am really pleased with Dr. Smith and his staff.

As for me I had my band surgery on May 12,2005 and I have now lost a hundred and five pounds....

Dr. Jay has many raves from his LB patients. He was named in D magazines top docs, and has been a thriving suregeon in Dallas for about 10 years.

I don't know about Dr. Smith. It sounds like people here have had good experiences with him.

I honestly would go with proximity since they both seem to have good reps.

If we are voting, My vote goes to Dr Jay! He is a great guy and think we would be friends even if I was not his patient. He is funny and down to earth and, even though he's thin, he seems to understand this fat girl's problems.

His staff always talks with me and helps me calm down when in a panic. Many of them have been banded and they can relate since they were once there. He has a brand new office at Medical City and it is huge! I got my fill using the flouro and he talked me all the way through. No question is too silly or strange.

Dr Jay will get my vote anytinme!

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
