I just ate Tomato Soup, egg drop Soup, cottage cheese/applesauce, squash soup, chicken noodle soup, Protein shakes(lots), yogurt, mashed potato's, oatmeal, refried Beans. It wasn't all that bad although I was in bandster hell so I did get hungry every day.

Biff, I'm in the same boat. I start the soft foods in a couple days also. I still don't understand why food has to be put in a blender? Also, I've heard people saying that they used baby food. Any ideas about this?

Try spaghetti sauce with meat...it is really good. Put it over cottage cheese and add parmasian cheese almost like lasagna...I don't like to cook twice so any time I have needed mushies I just figure out the best things to cook...good luck, AMD stay away from Pasta and bread....

The reason why things have to be put in a blender is because they have to be without chunks at this stage. When chunks go through your stomach it starts to try and digest them, your stomach moves and attempts to grind the chunks up. At this stage any stomach movement is harmful because the band has been stitched to your stomach. If you stomach starts moving to digest food then stitches break therefore the placement of the band has been comprised.

Heather,

I was banded back in November and no one pointed out the obvious one thing you pointed out. Hope I didn't harm anything because I wasn't an A+ student the first 30 days. All seems to be well now but seems like so many valuable insights come from this site. So many Dr's and staff are oblivious to important information that could make this journey so much easier.

I started puréed foods today, I've been having Greek yogurt, applesauce, refried Beans w/ taco sauce, and a smoothie (handful of berries, some skim milk, and Protein powder). I'm really anxious to move to soft foods.

Does oatmeal count as a puréed food?

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
