Hi! My name is Marti and I just had Lapband surgery on May 10th. They also found and repaired a hiatal hernia. My question is this.....I am unable to burp even when I feel like it and have a lot of left shoulder pain is this normal? Thanks for any help you can provide.

I think whatever you are going throu is right for you. What does the Dr say? Pain is normal. I hope that you are walking, I recommend gas-x . you arent using a straw or drinking soda are you?

Dr. says walk and I have been doing that, and no sodas or straws. I don't even feel hungry. Having to make myself drink at present but no nausea just the nagging shoulder pain.

Marti. So many of us lapbanders have that at the beginning right after surgery. Drink as much as possible. Be kind to yourself. Perhaps you can relax yourself a bit. Are you tense? You only have the surgery just a few days. Love yourself...

It is fairly normal to have the shoulder pain mine hurt relly bad for about a week.. The I want to burp feeling is from the swelling around the band. It comes after fills as well. You are new at this so just ask questions and do not worry everything you are experiencing is normal.....

I had lap band surgery on April 9th; my doctor also repaired my hiatal hernia. I have NOT had a soda since April 1st and honestly, I have not burped since my surgery date . . . very odd indeed~

Part if this is the gases they put in your body at surgery. It will fade, I remember those feelings and pain.

The shoulder pain is from the gas used to inflate the belly during surgery- it will dissipate in time. I was able to burp fine, but others do report they have a hard time burping post op.

Thank you all for responding! What a great place this is to come to as we all journey together and have questions. It so helps to know what I'm feeling is normal and that I just have to hang in there and it will get better. Again, many thanks!

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
