No Restriction All Of Sudden!

Recommended Posts

I was banded almost 5 years ago and havent had a fill in nearly 4 years! Everything was good until a week ago when I lost all restriction! Totally gone! Is something wrong? Do I have a leak? I'm going for a fill next week, but wondered if this has happened to anyone else? I have to have restriction!

That hasn't happened to me, but it did happen to a friend of mine whose tubing had sprung a leak.

A sudden loss of restriction can also be a sign of a band slip, so it might be a good idea to have an upper GI study done to check the position of your band.

That is exactly what happened to me in January of this year. I had my band placed 7/2003, had lost 90 lbs and kept most of it off with last fill being in 2005 then in January of this year I suddenly lost all restriction. After a few months of thinking it was just my imagination I started researching possible issues and then after putting on 40 lbs decided to have my band dr take a look. When he withdrew all Fluid he said there was only like a drop (not enough to even measure) and since then I have had 2.5 cc placed (from 2 separate fills) and nothing. I was suppose to have an appt today to see where the leak is coming from but my Dr had to run to OR so I rescheduled for tomorrow. I am hoping it can easily be repaired/replaced and that my insurance will cooperate. Did you find out anything more regarding your band? Keep me updated.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
