Support Group Fees?????????????!$!$#$#$%

Recommended Posts

I'm in Peoria, IL area and there are 2 groups run by the hospitals here for the same dr's group. One charges $495 and the other is free. I went with the free one and got what I paid for in education. I had to see the shrink, nutritionist and the dr. The other group has pre op classes and support groups that give tons of info. I kinda fumbled through till I found a group in my area to attend by way of the paper, my "group" leader didn't know it existed.

what hospital is this at? I am going to the seminar at Methodist on Dec. 6th.

My hospital charges a $500 fee for the bariatric program. Brigham & Womes Hospital in Boston has a similar fee which I believe is $300. I thought it was pretty standard so I never questioned it !?!?!?!?!

I go to brigham and womens and it is also 500. I called around to diffferent area hospitals and mostly all the major ones are 500. I think it is unfair and a way to get money out of desperate people.

My nutritionist at the hospital started a weight loss support group for anymore wanting to lose weight, not just surgical people. They charge $20 a month or $50 for three months. We have blood pressure check the first week, measurements the second week, third week is an open topic decided the week before, and the last week we taste different low fat recipes or cereals, Protein Drinks, etc. We also get meal plans, exercise handouts and we have an exercise session each week. It's worth the $50 every three months to connect with ours "in person". I love these support online groups but also nice to be with people when losing. The surgeon at the hospital also has a weight loss support group and there is no charge for that. I went but all they did was talk and complain about this and that and was no real meaningful information for me.

My hospital charged $250.00 for the program. And I had to pay $310.00 to cover my Optifast. But if that includes support group, I don't know. I've never gone to one.

the first surgeon I chose was awesome and I went through everything I needed and then found out there was an $800 support group fee due before surgery. I couldn't come up with that in 2 weeks so I had to drop out of the program. I then started going to seminars again and found a doctor I LOVE and the support groups are FREE! yay!!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
