Surgery Yesterday And I Am Very Sick To My Stomach

Recommended Posts

I was banded Friday at about 4 and I haven't had anything to eat since Thursday at 10pm. I have this constant feeling that I am about to throw up. I want to eat so that I don't lose my strength but I just can't stomach it. Any suggestions to get rid of this feeling ... Help!!!!

Can the doc prescribe you some medicine for nausea?

It may not feel like it

right now but it will pass. Surprised your surgeon didn't prescribe some anti-nausea meds. Hang in there.

Ditto here for the anti-nausea meds? Doc gave me an Rx for these meds but I was fortunate and didn't need it. Call your Dr or his answering service. He made enough $ to make his Mercedes payment for 3 months so no worries.

An old remedy my grandfather used to use was peppermint candy, just a thought since you can't get any meds right now. I haven't been banded yet but I do have some nausea meds already from having a stomach bug earlier this year. Hoping for a banding in June, we'll see. Hope you get some relief.

I felt absolutely miserable for the surgery day and the day after and a SLoW progression to better every day since. I am so surprised you did not get anti nauseous medicine! If there is a on call number I would call it! Day three is much better!

You shouldn't be eating at this stage, liquids only. Try some liquid gravol or something if you can't get in to your doctor; a pharmacist can probably recommend something as well.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
