So this is a little bit embarrassing, but ....

Is the gas just painful, or is it loud?

Is it the upward gas, or the downword gas?

Yikes, I have to go back to my teaching job 4 days after surgery. Am I setting myself up for a super embarrassing situation? And the liquid diet - um, I can only leave my classroom 1 time each hour, on a very tight schedule. Advice? Experiences?

I would try different Protein shakes to make sure that you tolerate them. There are a few brands that send me running to bathroom. My DH commented that it was like I was funnel, pour the shake into my mouth and it runs right into the toilet. (Designer whey and Slimfast Low Carb were two of the brands that just didn't agree with me.)

After surgery, use Gasx.

The gas you get after surgery is the air they fill you with to do the proceedure. It gets stuck and hurts but doesn't make sound. My intestines got going two days after and gas x worked for it. None of it was real loud for me. Best wishes

My gas has been bad. Comes out from the top and bottom, either way, I welcome it. I am a teacher also and my doc said i should take 2 weeks. This time I'm going to listen. I have had surgeries before and am pretty sickly with colds and bad allergies. I always go back too early, and regret it. Not this time. Good luck to you.

My gas is soo bad my children 13 & 18 get excited for me which ever way it comes. My stomach is big!! I can feel it and hear it! I'm calling my DR. tomorrow because its the gas pains that's preventing me from doing anything. It hurts if I take a deep breath and stand up straight. Other than the gas I am doing well. I take gas x, maalox, peppermint tea and walking. I am ready to go back to work but scared. O! I was banded on the 16th.

I am getting more upper gas but they are kind of loud. I wish I would get more lower. But at this point whatever gas I get I am not holding any in.

Thanks for the recent input, banders. You're giving me lots to think about. I may try to cut my classes short so I don't have to worry about an embarrassing gas moment. I would just die if gas came from either the top or the bottom in front of my students (they are all Marines who have heard gas before, but I'm not one of them, so a little awkward).

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
