Did anyone else cheat????? My surgery is Monday. All in all, I have followed the pre-op diet, but about every third day, I just cheat. Without thinking about it. I want to have a healthy surgery, but I find that 10 days with just full liquids is impossible for me. I am not eating junk food, but last night I did drive through white castles and split 4 of them with my dog. What the heck am I doing?????

I cheated too **blush**. Sad, but true.

Try to stick to it as much as you can... and keep the cheats as healthy as you can. Per my surgeon, "If you're going to cheat, please keep it Protein & not fatty. Fatty stuff will dump right back into the liver, defeating the entire pre-op diet. So cheat with chicken or fish." LOL, he doesn't know me at all! Fish isn't a cheat!!!!

On the happy side, lol, I didn't cheat on the post-op diet... because I was terrified of ripping something or hurting something.

Hang in there, it'll be over soon! (( HUGS!! ))

I feel your pain. It's like defeat before it even gets started. But if I could have stuck with Full Liquids (or any diet) before, I wouldn't even be having the surgery. I am following it the best I can, but it's a lot harder than it sounds.

I had a 10 day pre-op diet and it was REALLY hard. I had a couple of slips too but figured that I was doing the best I could. I lost 9 pounds in that 10 days and my surgeon told me that my liver looked really good. So, I figure that even with a couple of slips you're still following doctor's orders for the most part.

Hang in there. I've found the post-op diet hard to follow too but the motivation is much better since the band is in me now.

My surgery is on the 7th and I'm struggling HARD with the pre-op diet. I feel like crap.

I went to bed shakey and with a headache last night. Woke up at 4:00 am -and couldn't go back to sleep -with a painful, hollow, "hot pipe" feeling from my esophogus to my stomach. I ate about 1/3 of a chicken breast around 6:00 am and it all disappeared. I had about a cup of SF Jello and a can of Swanson's chicken broth around 8:00 am and now I'm gagging down 8 oz. of Protein Drink in low-fat milk mixed with fresh rasberries and Splenda. And this is the best tasting stuff on the market?

I just want to die and get it over with. Or at least lie down and give up. I swear I think I'm only half-kidding. I mean, after all, what's so bad about having a big butt? What's wrong with ginormous boobs. Why can't a protruding belly and thighs that rub-together-so-much-when-you-walk-you-could-start-a-forest-fire be sexy? Not to mention the lovely way pants and shorts kinda crawl up and stick between them. There's nothing embarassing about having your chair stay attached to your @ss when you try to stand up. It's not humilating to have to ask the stewardess - I mean flight attendant - for a seatbelt extender. Or the smile on their faces when they hand it to you. It's not frustrating to wait to see a movie till it's been out a couple of weeks because you know you're going need a little bit of the seat next to you.

Ya, OK. I'll gag down some more of my Protein drink and see if I can find some Excedrin.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
