New To Website, And Lap-Band Process!

Recommended Posts

Hey ya'll! About a year ago I started the Lap-band process, and 2 weeks before I was going to get the surgery my husband got stationed last minute across the country. I was devastated. Now that we are finally settled again I have started the process over again. I will be going to the University of Colorado hospital. I'm still waiting for them to contact me in for my first appointment! As much as I want the surgery, I can't help but keep the horror stories in my head!

I have 100 pounds to lose, and I'm still in my early 20's so hopefully my skin won't look too terrible after I lose the weight.

Is the port visible for any of you?

What is the most common complication you've experienced so far?

Anything you would suggest doing, or not doing?

I would love any words of encouragement, or success stories! Thanks!

I started on the road to lap band about one year ago. My insurance company required the 6-month diet/weigh ins. I had all of the pre-op testing completed. I had my lap band surgery on April 9th and have NO regrets. I have lost 25 pounds (already down 2 pant sizes). I had the typical gas pains for a couple of days. I have no idea where my port is (I think I failed human anatomy) HA~ I cannot see it or feel it. I am scheduled for my first fill on June 6th. I have nothing but good things to say about the process. I have spent 20 years struggling with weight and health issues and I intend to spend the next 20 years being healthier. I have been very strict about following doctor's orders on the liquid and mushie diet. Good Luck~!

Hi,

I just had my lap band procedure last week. I had more swelling then they anticipated after the surgery and ended up in the emergency room. They had to remove Fluid from my band so Fluid could pass through again but once that was done, I was much better. I still have some abdominal pain where the port is sewn in, but I can't feel the port. I have lost 60 pounds since I started the process but still have at least that much to go.

I am sure you will do just fine!! I'm new to the group too, but hoping it helps navigate through this new process.

Well good luck!

My name is Barbara. I had my lapband done Sept, 2006. I am down 125 lbs and sooo happy. I have a new lease on life and am loving it. My energy levels are soaring and I feel so good about myself.

Just remember to eat slowly and chew your food at least 25-30 times. Do not drink, ever, while you are eating. I had a couple of problems for not doing the two things I just stated. Actually this is what you are suppose to do, which I just didn't do. I was in danger of slipping, but thank God I did not and it was rectified. Just remember the do's and don't and you will be fine. Any ?? ask your doctor, because from him you will get it straight. Please keep me up to date as to when your surgery is, etc. Ok. Again I wish you the best.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
