Hey all,

I would like to know if anyone here is like me and senstive to painkillers, opiates, etc. I saw on my surgery notes they will be pumpng up with Oxycontin. I've never taken that before. I once took a half a Vicodin and was really sick for 5 hours. Percocet makes me really dizzy. I would only take 1/4 of it in the hospital when I had my gallbladder out and they did shoot me up with a good dose of Morphine when they sewed me up and i seemed fine.

I always worry about taking stuff and most of the time grin and deal with the pain.

Yes, I am and learned the hard way the first night I got home after banding. I took a dose of oxycontin just as prescribed and dry heaved until I finally threw it back up. It was awful and the last time I will ever take that drug.

I was on morphine in the hospital and had no problem with that.

My doctor prescribed Cellebrix for use at home. He said they didn't like narcotics with the band. (i never got the answer of why) but the Cellebrix worked great. I think it's for muscle aches and it really helped with the gas pains and the sore belly muscles. (I thought they had me doing a 1000 sit ups whilst I was out)

Hmmm...throwing up would not be good. I'm wondering wether to bring this up on surgery day or call now.

They do have meds they can give you with the anesthesia that will keep you from getting sick, if that's your case, or itching, if that's the problem. I would talk to the doctor about your concerns...they have experience with drug sensitivities, and will probably have a back up plan.

Good luck! Cindy

If I take a Lortab/Vicodin, I can eat huge amounts. I'm not sure if they loosen up your stomach, or if they just mask the full feeling. Even when I was banded I could eat tons on pain pills. Not sure why though.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
