Makes You Realize How Lucky We Are After This Story.

Recommended Posts

Most of us worry ourselves to death about our weight loss goals, beat ourselves up if we gain a pound or don't lose enough in a months time. We also ponder daily about what foods we can and can not eat. For alot of us it is the biggest most drastic change of our lives, sometimes wondering if we made the right choice in getting the band in the first place. But after reading this article today about these kids who don't have a choice, it really gives me a whole new perspective in life and how lucky we really are.

I realize that my years of bad choices is what got me here to begin with, but atleast I can say that as little as I eat today it is no comparison to what these kids and parents are going through.

I may occasionally mourne the absence of my pizza, I loved so much or miss eating a dinner roll with that cinnamon butter at Texas Road House, but atleast I don't have to live my life eating from a tube or watching others eat their meal while I eat baby formula just to get a little nutrition. I could not imagine what their life could be like, never able to enjoy the simple luxuries we take for granit. So the next time I have to get a fill and drink liquids for a day or two afterwards, it won't seem like the end of the world anymore after knowing that they have to do it everyday. Hopefully one da soony their will be enough funding for research to find a cure for these people. Until then, I think we all need to be thankful for what we do have and realize we were lucky enough to be able to have a choice.

Just hit home for me so much..I lost alot of weight when I was 40 years old and kept it off for 12 years and now I am three weeks post op and am not able to drop the weight even with the surgery(so far) then I did when I was 40 and I am glad you wrote this as I am so in need of a prospective of what I can do now versus what I did then...I am older and need to realize my body is going to react to the surgery and my metabolism is not where it was when I was 40.

I thank u

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
