I think we need another shout out for your surgery dates! Room is getting way too quiet with all the newbies too shy to post and the others being stuck in "lapband hell" not wanting to share.

So ...

1. What's your surgery date?

2. If your post op... how ya doing?

I was banded April 2, and just waiting for the first fill. Very frustrated because it doesn't seem to matter how much I do or don't eat, I'm stuck at exactly 200 lbs. My fill is scheduled for May 21 and I'm not nervous about having it done at all. Just want to get this ball rolling. If ANYONE out there is not losing right after surgery and feeling discouraged... know your not alone!

Hi,

Surgery was 4/20 and I'm with you in bandster hell. I've lost 16 (9 two weeks pre op, 7 first week, and .6 third :( ). I will only weigh myself on Friday's (I will be shocked if that scale is ever a friend) and hoping the scale gives me a little love tomorrow.. Feeling great other wise and can eat now which is awesome and not too many intolerable foods since band is open. First fill isn't until 5/30. I am hungry which is tough but trying to eat a Protein snack between meals to ward off the beast. 20 more days and hoping to get some help from the band as you know at this point it's just another diet. Keeping a positive attitude as this site has helped so much and hearing the success from people even after they have struggled. Hope everyone is doing well!

Ya that phone thing is a pain. Hopefully they will fix it soon.

Thanks for sharing too. It's good to know how others in the same time frame are doing. We're 151 members strong now and I'm really hoping they also share. It really does help and I like getting to know each of you.

HI i am Deb (julz of ourse you knew who i am) lol

For the rest i was banded May 2, I am on my one week post op. I am not having any major issues except i keep losing the same 1-2 lbs over and over. I am not hungry still and I dont seem to be hitting enough protien or calories per day. Not sure if i should try to increase foods to meet that goal or if i should just eat the small amounts and let it go and see what happens. I think i am in bandster hell of my own making. Maybe i overthink everything. being an RN isnt helping in that. I see ppl who has lost 20 lbs the first 2 weeks and i want to bang my head on the floor and scream ok what am i doing wrong or not doing right. I still know this was the right answer for me and I still know i will be sucessfull but at times i get worried that maybe if i eat to much i will mess something up etc... Tomorrow i am going back to work. I hope that will help me so not to sit here and worry and wonder as much.

It's hard to be kind to yourself when your so anxious to loss weight. I need to remember this is a process not a quick fix. We'll make it happen if we're just patient.

Yep! Talking more to myself here than anyone else. Seems to help if I put it out there. Hope posting has the same affect on you all.

I was banded 4/18 — lost 12 in the preop diet and 14 the week after surgery.

No idea how much I've lost in the last 2 weeks cause I don't have a scale, but I'm hoping it'll be lots when I weigh in next Thursday. My clothes are loose, I feel good, and my husband said I feel smaller when he hugs me. That said, I bought some pants one size down and they DEFINITELY don't fit yet...

I felt better as like you said some lose allot but seems like more (and I'm one) stop losing quickly even though taking in so low calories. I sure hope scale moves eventually ! I think like folks said combination of shock to body and healing first and a bit of being in starvation mode so your body tries to hold on. Seems like every says don't worry about the first month so I'm trying not to.

Surgery was 4/30 and Im on mushy foods right now...I lost almost 25lbs in 3 weeks! on the liquid dietbefore and after surgery, but now it's slowing down to the average pace...I only started to be hungry when I started the mushy diet...I can't believe I wasn't hungry at all the entire time I was on liquid...

My surgery was 4-30. I am starting to feel better now. I have been having pain where my port is, but today it feels a lot better! I am not losing yet either. But they said this is the time to heal and not worry about losing yet. easier said than done! LOL

I have my first fill n the 21st. I am not scared to have it because I HAD TO HAVE SOME Fluid REMOVED FROM MY BAND THE DAY AFTER SURGERY, SO THIS SHOULD BE A PIECE OF CAKE COMPARED TO THAT!! Sorry for the caps. oops.

I hope everyone is doing well!

My first fill is next Tuesday and I'm so ready! Too hungry. I go to bed hungry :( Wake up hungry :(

Oh I'm so glad to hear about the upcoming dates. Keep up posted! I'm sure all of you will do awesome.

For those of us who have had our surgeries, it's good to hear most of us are in the same boat. Getting back into our regular routines. It's been good for me to be busy and not focus 110% on my band. Right now it's too easy to eat, too easy to step on the scale and way too easy to get discouraged and then look for a little sumtin sumtin to make it all better.

151? So what's happen with the rest of you?

April 13th.

Enjoying eating my fat free refried Beans, mild taco sauce and melted reduced fat cheese with my baby spoon! I know I shouldn't be on the computer while I'm eating but I am. I am on mushies right now and have my next nutritionist appointment Monday, then I get to move to soft foods!

I had my post op with my surgeon on May 1st. He was running behind so they sent me to see the nutritionist first. They are all at the same clinic, just different floors and sections. Originally my appointment with the nutritionist was 20 min after my appointment with the surgeon. When I got back up to his office they took me back right away. The nurse I saw was not only new to the surgeon but a new nurse so she wasn't much help answering any questions I had. One hour and forty minutes after my scheduled appointment time I spent less than 5 minutes with the surgeon. I know this sounds like I'm complaining but I really wasn't upset, I did get the few questions I had answered. I would much rather see a doctor who is running late and will spend time with you if you need it than one that is on time because he is in and out as fast as possible. He is a general surgeon not strictly a bariatric surgeon.

I have an appointment to see the surgeons PA on June 7th so I'm guessing I may get a fill at that time. Right now I'm not really sure I need one so it's probably a good thing I don't see him for another 3 1/2 weeks, it gives me time to figure it out.

If you have read any of my other posts you may know that I started my journey in August at 270 (I'm 5'4"). The doctors and I chose a Modified Very Low Calorie diet for me while I was waiting to fulfill my insurance/clinic's pre-op requirements. I did not always stick strictly to the diet but I did make a few lifestyle changes along the way and by the time I had surgery I was down to 199.5. Today I was hovering a little over 184 when I weighed myself this afternoon. Of course I like to think since I weighed myself in the afternoon instead of in the morning before having anything to eat or drink I am a pound or two lower than that!

One of the reasons I'm mentioning this is to let others know if you are as large as I was (BMI 46+) it may be a while before many people start to notice your weight loss, or at least feel comfortable enough to say something to you about it. I have been very open with people at work about working with the clinic and that my goal was to have surgery. There are a few others that I work with (but in a different building) that are working with the same Weight Management Team although they are not necessarily considering surgery. A few people that I am close to have said encouraging things to me along the way but most people really didn't seem to notice until I was down about 50 lbs or more. Maybe it was because they saw me everyday so it really wasn't that obvious. Don't be discouraged if people aren't noticing or saying anything. They may not be sure and don't want to embarrass themselves by saying anything.

Now a lot of people are starting to notice. I'm down about 86lbs. The goal I have set for myself is 130. I have been wondering a lot lately how "tied" to that number I should be. I chose it because it will put me at a normal BMI. I have gone from Morbidly Obese to Obese and am getting close to that Overweight BMI. My current BMI is about 31.5. It feels weird but good to be looking forward to being "overweight"!

This post may be more appropriate under "My Story" but I think it will reach more people here and I hope others find it encouraging. Besides I am still in the very early stages of my journey.

Thanks for sticking with my rambling post!

Teri

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
