First Step....seminar Today =)

Recommended Posts

Today is the first step in making a change. I have a seminar to learn more about lap band tonight. Even though I have read, read, and read some more about lap band (the good, bad, etc). The doctors in my area require you to attend a seminar before setting up an appt. Is that the nomal for everywhere? Any advice/questions to ask at the Seminar? I am very excited/nervous....can't wait to start this new journey to a healthy me!

Hi, Newbie: I am a "Newbie" also--well, sort of. I started this journey 3X before. I had other health problems --like I couldn't walk because of two very arthritic knees and was in a lot of pain daily. I think this is what took my focus priority and I couldn't focus on the Lap Band surgery journey the way I needed to. When I went to the first meeting I was told there and by my dr. that after the lap-band you cannot take any NSAIDS (non-narcotic pain releivers) after the band surgery. Well, I couldn't get through a day without my NSAIDS. So I dropped out---since then I have had my two knees replaced and am now ready to explore this new phasae in my life. I am 64, have 2 grown children and 5 grandchildren. I am about 340lb. 5'5". Write to me and tell me a little about you---I haven't made my new appointment yet---as I need to see a doctor about a breathing problem (I have sleep apnea)---but after that I plan to call. Let me know how your meeting went.

Hugs,

Bobbi

Hi and welcome. I'm still a relative newbie as well. I starting with a seminar in March and have my surgery scheduled for the 21st. I have learned so much from these boards. My Dr. required a seminar as well, so pretty usual. Have you checked with your insurance yet? If not do so ASAP to see if they have any requirements or exclusions. Good luck!

The seminar is a normal process in most places I believe.

I remember that day having lots of mixed feelings.

..How did I ever get here.

..I'm glad I am here to do something about this.

..I hope no one I know sees me here.

In the end It was worth every bit of prep work and struggle. Good Luck to you in your journey !! :)

I have just today been given my 1st appointment for 29th may which I guess is to see if I am eligible and clear about my decision. I look forward to going through the process at the same time as many of you.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
