Has anyone had this happen to them or do you have any idea why this has happened to me?

My port flipped for the second time.

6 months ago I had outpatient surgery to replace a flipped port. The doc discovered it after being unable to do a second fill.

Then just the other day after trying to get another fill the doc couldn't access the port and had me come in to do it under fluoroscopy where it was discovered that once again the port had flipped completely upsidedown.

I had the second surgery today to replace the port and hopefully this won't happen again.

Would love to hear your thoughts on this.

I have heard of this before but no idea why it should happen.

I had one port flip about a month and a half after surgery. My doctor said that he was seeing more and more of one specific type of port flipping. Something to do with how it attached to your muscle. Maybe that could be it?

My doctor said there are two ways to attach the port. The port comes with little prongs that self attach to the muscle. The other way is to suture I directly to the muscle. He said he has seen a lot of flipped ports from MDs that use the prongs? Maybe this is why?

Generally the lapband port is stitched, the Realize port is the one with the prongs.

My doctor stitched both of them. He said after the first time it flipped he really sutured it into the abdominal muscles well. But, it flipped again. I wonder if it is an issue with my anatomy.

did you dr give you any explanation as to why this would happen, especially two times?? you mentioned that it was an outpatient procedure?? do you get just a local anaesthetic for it?

Both times the repairs were done under general anesthesia. I was home that same afternoon. The Dr. didn't have any explanation as to why this has happened. He had one other patient who's port flipped, but that was the only other time this has happened to him. Hopefully it won't happen again.

I wonder it the type of suture he uses doesn't agree with you body chemistry and is broken down over time.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
