I went to see Dr. Sarker this morning and she was very nice and informative. She went over everything with me and the steps I must take to get banded. I have so far made 5 appointments all for the month of May! :D I'm so happy! I have to take a sleep test, has anyone taken it? I'm going on the 21st for that and then on 22nd I'm having a Pulmonary function study, I have no clue what that really is. I think it's a breathing test. The process isn't as dreadful as I thought it would be. My goal is to have a July surgery date but I know i have no control over that. I'm waiting for a call back from the psychological dept so that I may make an appointment for the evaluation. So far so good though :D :D :D I'm so excited!!!!!!!

I had a sleep study and I went to the hospital at 9:00 pm, they have you get in PJ's and then they stick wires all over your head. You just go to sleep like you would do at home but they monitor you while you sleep. It does not hurt, it is not uncomfortable. Hope that helps.

Good luck on your journey.

My experience with the sleep study sucked- but everyone is different. Arrived at 7:45pm, You are wired from head to toe and they tell you to relax and sleep, but you're afraid to move, so I was stiff and slept off and on and they woke me up at 5 am, then try to wash your hair with the gel stuff they have to put on for the connectors. Just glad it's done and hope I don't have to do it again. Good luck!!

Thank you ladies that helps a lot. I wanted to get it out of the way as soon as possible because I have read mixed reviews on the forum.

The sleep study isn't that bad, its just the wires your hooked up to. Makes it hard to roll over!

I hated sleep study. But a small sacrifice since I've lost a middle school child worth of weight since last May.

Can't believe I passed psych exam. My endoscopy and abdominal US were already done before first consult due to hernia. Yea. Busy month of tests and appointments but glad I did while I was still having the nerve to get banded.

I did'nt have to do a sleep study but had to show that I'd had a pap smear, mammogram, physical that year (I guess to show general health. If your doctor does not require meeting with a psycholgist who specializes in eating disorders I highly recommend going on your own. The office should be able to recommend someone. These sessions really helped me understand why I was over eating and to identify trigger foods. Foods that I would eat a lot of mindlessly, and foods that led me to eat even more food. My problem is crunchy foods and I don't mean baby carrots! I would have 3+ bags of fat free crackers, chips, rice cakes open in my house at any time. And I live alone. I had to stop buying these things. If I am at a party I can have crackers there. I can not however buy them myself and keep them in my house.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
