Summertime Liquid Calories Help Me Stay Cool And Refreshed !!

Recommended Posts

Its starting to warm up and I'm starting to freak out about the summer and all the cool sugary calorie filled drinks !! I've never been a person to drink my calories but I was an avid diet coke drinker. Now that I can't have carbonated drinks and dont care for iced tea I'm a little stuck !! I know if I plan ahead I can make my own smoothies but what else can u do in the fast paced summertime??

I used to drink diet coke -- 12 a day -- and have been drinking diet drinks for over 40 years. I am SO grateful that is no longer an option & I am free of that addiction. I think I lost 10 lbs just from stopping that.

I have started drinking crystal light. It's too sweet to me so I add more Water. I also drink Protein shakes. And make cool meals. I don't cook & live in TX & we had 3 months of 100 degree weather last year. So, I would also love some cool ideas.

Experiment with fruit tisanes and herbal teas. There are some really good ones out there. I tend to like ones described as "tropical".

Cucumber Water as mentioned above is also fantastic.

Have you heard of Mio...they are zero sugar, cals, & carbs...There are a ton of flavors...you squirt them into your Water. I also drink Powerade Zero and Wylers sugar free koolaid stuff...make a big pitcher of it.

Try the Mio squeeze bottles too. They come in various flavors: sweet tea, peach, fruit punch, berry pomegranate, lemonade, blueberry lemonade, etc. You just squeeze however much "flavor" you want into Water.< /p>

Cucumber Water is awesome! Also adding oranges' date=' lemons, grapefruit, stawberries, raspberries, etc. it's very refreshing. The cucumber which tends to be naturally salty also makes me commune more!!!! :-)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
