Any Atkins Banders Out There?!

Recommended Posts

Hey there! I'm 5 weeks post op and have lost 20lbs. My weight loss has slowed now like I knew it would. I haven't been eating very good just very little. I have pcos so I'm not suppose to have breads and sugars so Atkins or south beach is what I'm suppose to follow, but I haven't. I would love to hear if low carb has helped any of you banders???? Thanks! ???Š

I do the low carb. I started with the South Beach prior to banding per doc (pre-op) and I have pretty much stayed with it. I don't have any bread, Pasta, or rice. Always meat and veggies.

I do not count calories. I journal my food and exercise. I think it has helped me and I don't miss the items. I am down 44 lbs and I was banded 2/3/12..

Here is what I had yesterday.

Breakfast: Greek yogurt strawberry Protein (chocolate) smoothie

Lunch: Seared chicken with stir-fry veggies (left over from dinner previous night)

Snack: Wasa cracker with laughing cow cheese light

Dinner: Tuna fish with wasa cracker and Greek yogurt (i didn't cook dinner last night)

I have a greek yogurt Protein smoothing every morning during the work week for Breakfast. I just recently (April 18 after doc appt) started having a snack in the afternoon only if needed. Prior to this NO Snacks at all only three meals a day.

I've done low carb (<30) from the beginning and I've lost 82lb in a year. I think its awesome, toot can see what I eat on my fitness pal, I'm skinnybitchnikki. Its a great tool for accountability.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
