Don't Know If This Question Will Be Redundant...

Recommended Posts

I am PRAYING I get my first fill on Thursday. I had my surgery on 2/13, and when I was supposed to get my first fill, they said no because I was loosing on my own, and I was still have breathing issues from surgery. My pulmonologist cleared me for a fill yesterday, so that should be happening Thursday. I have been so hungry and the scale isn't moving, which is good, because my choices haven't been the best, so at least I have maintained! Anyway...my question is, is there food I should stay away from, or should I not eat within a specific time frame of the fill? I know after I should have Soups and such, but I was just curious about before. Also, how long does the fill actually take? Since they are just injected saline, I am assuming not long, but I wanted to hear from some veterans. Thank you for all your help!

Always check with your doctor regarding his/her instructions. My doctor wants me to do liquids for 48 hours after a fill -- Protein Drinks, broth, etc. he is very experienced & the fill itself probably takes less than a minute. Good luck making good choices for your continued success!

my Dr likes me on liquids the day of fill, including before. Sometimes food can take a long time to drain from the pouch so she doesn't want there to be a chance the fill stops the food from going through.

the actual fill takes a minute. I think I was in ans out of my last appointment on 15 or 20.

I was never given instructions for before the fill. Since they weigh you before the fill I try not to eat very much. The fill itself take like 1 minute. They do ask you before the fill about your general health. They have you look at the "chart" that shows the yellow/green/red zones. If you know you are getting a fill they may not bother with that.

dont eat anything at elast 2 hrs before your fill so that your stomach is emtpy. do liquids for 2 days after your fill, but check with your doctor to make sure.

My doctor asks me to eat a light meal day before and nothing five hours before my fill. I barely sip Water. Then of course full liquids for three days after. That third day is hard so I have a thin Tomato Soup and applesauce or Protein Shakes.< /p>

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
