Post Op Day 5 No Appetite

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone I'm doing okay I'm 5 days post op and my appetite is like non existent I'm trying to make sure I get in enough Fluid (water crystal light Protein water) so I don't get dehydrated...but as far as thick liquid and creamy Soups i don't feel like I'm drinkin as much as I should. Yesterday I ran a few errands and I think I did way too much so I felt horrible I had 2 sips of Soup and I couldn't even finish I tried some yogurt but the gas inside of me is also making me feel very tight so I stop..hopefully the swelling will go down soon and the gas will go away completely soon..yesterday was HELL I'm doing better today with the gas I was able to have 2 bowel movements after not going since Tuesday after drinking a little light apple juice and some Metamucil i also just finished a Protein Shake I started this morning. I have 2 ccs in my band so maybe that is also playing a part idk

Yeah, you'll feel that way, as far as no appetite. I didn't start really having an appetite till about a week after the procedure. I mainly stuck to drinking Propel Zero Water (for some flavor) as I was concentrating on getting over the gas pain. If no one has mentioned, buy some Gas-X strips. I didn't discover the power of these strips until I was just about over the gas pains, lol. You won't regain most of your mobility (as far as stretching or moving around) until around 10 or so days after the procedure. Of course, these are ballpark figures, as recovery varies from person to person. Just try to take it easy, and do a little bit of walking around to help dissipate the gas.

Thanks for the advice. I got the gas x strips before surgery I have been using them since surgery sometimes they work other times not at all..how long did it take for your gas pain to go away?

I noticed the gas pain was virtually gone around 9-10 days post-op.

Walking is the best way to relieve the horrible gas pains. Appetite is usually suppressed because of the anesthesia. It will probably return in about a week. Congratulations on getting your band!!!

Thanks everyone (knock on wood) but I think this gas pain is gone...hopefully. I walked around last evening had some Soup took my meds and stuck a Gas x under my tongue and I slept all night no waking up because of gas I was able to release alot of it before I fell asleep..I noticed while in bed I had a sharp pain right under my chest by my ribs so I massaged and massaged for a while and I felt the gas moving and finally got it out!! I'm so happy. You don't realize how painful it really is until it's gone.. I sure hope it stays gone :-) I feel 10x better today!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
