cecelee0410 1 Posted May 7, 2012 Hello! Very new to this forum and just got my band on may 1 st. I am not an everyday smoker but I do enjoy my weed an cigarettes. Does anyone have any suggestions on when it's ok to go back to both? Haven't smoked anything since the day before surgery. any personal stories would be lovely as well! Thanks so much!! 2muchfun 8,927 Posted May 7, 2012 Don't do either. Pot will lower your inhibitions and you'll eat too much and consume the wrong foods and cigarettes will give you cancer. 3 SibleyNP, elcee and Maddysgram reacted to this
Charda 14 Posted May 7, 2012 i feel the same way that 2muchfun do. but i know that to quit cold turkey is hard... Im not condoning it but my sister is a regular weed smoker and she has been banned for 3yrs and have lost about 200lbs... I really think its a personal decision. But the paper work that you signed clearly states.....SMOKEING CAN CAUSE SERIOUS HARD TO A BANNED PATIENT...
Lollicatt 36 Posted May 7, 2012 I didn't wait to smoke cigs but I waited a couple weeks to smoke the other and I've had no problems.
dhales 98 Posted May 7, 2012 I would think it would be a major contradiction.... The band prevents hunger....pot makes you hungry. Just sayin...lol
Lollicatt 36 Posted May 7, 2012 Actually, the band reduces my munchies
Calamity Jane 6 Posted May 7, 2012 I was a daily pot smoker before the surgery. I didn't smoke the day of the surgery or the days I was in the hospital. I smoked both the second day being home. I'm fine. I don't have the munchies, which seems to be a huge point of contention for some people. If anything, I've found that cotton mouth isn't a problem because of all of the fluids I'm drinking. It was something I was looking into before the surgery and the only responses I saw were basically "DON'T SMOKE WEED DRUGS ARE BAD MMKAY!" - nothing stating what would happen if I DID smoke. The first day, I honestly didn't want to. I just wanted to sleep. The second day, the weed REALLY helped with any residual nausea and I honestly feel better. It's a personal choice, though. Only do what you can when you're ready. You got your band a day after I did - how are you feeling? 2 blackcadillacs5 and titansjim reacted to this
cecelee0410 1 Posted May 7, 2012 Charda- I understand where you're coming from but it is hard to quit just like its hard to stop eating yummy foods. I don't plan on going back right away to cigs. 2muchfun- cigarettes cause cancer? I never knew! I think all smokers are well aware of the risks they are taking, at least I do. Dani- I'm doing ok just relaxing but sill tryin to get up an around and mug as possible. Thank you so much for your story! I hope you are doing well!

jschulgs 14 Posted July 26, 2012 I'm getting banded August 2nd and I smoke weed every single day. I was concerned that I won't be able to smoke after the surgery because of the munchies I'll get afterward, but I've thought about this A LOT I cannot not smoke! It's one of the most enjoyable parts of my life especially if Im going to have to limit my drinking afterward. My theory is, if you can have the LAPBAND and practice self control with food, AND you're seeing results, then even if you are smoking you should force yourself to have that same self control. I'm not at that point yet, but this is my goal

KristinsMommy 145 Posted August 4, 2012 I haven't been banded yet my date is September 6th but I am a toker & I don't get munchies at all so I think it depends on the person. I don't smoke nearly as much as I use to because I am a mom now and only smoke when I'm away from her but even when I did smoke everyday I did not get the munchies
jschulgs 14 Posted August 13, 2012 Started smoking 4 days after surgery. I took baby hits and held my stomach in when I coughed. But I'm 9 days post op and nothing hurts. Drink Water with lemon instead of eating. That's it!
Secondchanceatlife 38 Posted August 13, 2012 I only WISH I could smoke again I quit almost two years ago because of my job, and I also smoked daily. I keep hoping that it will be legalized one day so I can smoke again! Sent from my MB865 using LapBandTalk 1 chantelleb816 reacted to this
