Pot Use And The Lapband

Recommended Posts

Hello!

Very new to this forum and just got my band on may 1 st. I am not an everyday smoker but I do enjoy my weed an cigarettes. Does anyone have any suggestions on when it's ok to go back to both? Haven't smoked anything since the day before surgery. any personal stories would be lovely as well! Thanks so much!!

Cece

Don't do either. Pot will lower your inhibitions and you'll eat too much and consume the wrong foods and cigarettes will give you cancer.

i feel the same way that 2muchfun do. but i know that to quit cold turkey is hard... Im not condoning it but my sister is a regular weed smoker and she has been banned for 3yrs and have lost about 200lbs... I really think its a personal decision. But the paper work that you signed clearly states.....SMOKEING CAN CAUSE SERIOUS HARD TO A BANNED PATIENT...

I didn't wait to smoke cigs but I waited a couple weeks to smoke the other and I've had no problems.

I would think it would be a major contradiction.... The band prevents hunger....pot makes you hungry. Just sayin...lol

I was a daily pot smoker before the surgery. I didn't smoke the day of the surgery or the days I was in the hospital. I smoked both the second day being home. I'm fine. I don't have the munchies, which seems to be a huge point of contention for some people. If anything, I've found that cotton mouth isn't a problem because of all of the fluids I'm drinking. It was something I was looking into before the surgery and the only responses I saw were basically "DON'T SMOKE WEED DRUGS ARE BAD MMKAY!" - nothing stating what would happen if I DID smoke. The first day, I honestly didn't want to. I just wanted to sleep. The second day, the weed REALLY helped with any residual nausea and I honestly feel better. It's a personal choice, though. Only do what you can when you're ready. You got your band a day after I did - how are you feeling?

Charda- I understand where you're coming from but it is hard to quit just like its hard to stop eating yummy foods. I don't plan on going back right away to cigs.

2muchfun- cigarettes cause cancer? I never knew! I think all smokers are well aware of the risks they are taking, at least I do.

Dani- I'm doing ok just relaxing but sill tryin to get up an around and mug as possible. Thank you so much for your story! I hope you are doing well!

I'm getting banded August 2nd and I smoke weed every single day. I was concerned that I won't be able to smoke after the surgery because of the munchies I'll get afterward, but I've thought about this A LOT I cannot not smoke! It's one of the most enjoyable parts of my life especially if Im going to have to limit my drinking afterward. My theory is, if you can have the LAPBAND and practice self control with food, AND you're seeing results, then even if you are smoking you should force yourself to have that same self control. I'm not at that point yet, but this is my goal :)

I haven't been banded yet my date is September 6th but I am a toker & I don't get munchies at all so I think it depends on the person. I don't smoke nearly as much as I use to because I am a mom now and only smoke when I'm

away from her but even when I did smoke everyday I did not get the munchies

Started smoking 4 days after surgery. I took baby hits and held my stomach in when I coughed. But I'm 9 days post op and nothing hurts. Drink Water with lemon instead of eating. That's it!

I only WISH I could smoke again :( I quit almost two years ago because of my job, and I also smoked daily. I keep hoping that it will be legalized one day so I can smoke again!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
