new beginnings03 9 Posted May 7, 2012 For my pre op diet I was on muscle milk ( protein) 3 times a day for 2 weeks. It helped a lot. Also now I am doing Bariatric Advantage Protein now and it's very good. If u absolutely need some food have baked season chicken and 1 cup of veggies. Also I would start working out ASAP hope everything works out for you

Divine_swoman 5 Posted May 7, 2012 I really like the EAS Carb Control shakes both vanilla and chocolate are great! They have 17 gm of Protein. Sold at Sam's in a 24 pk case for abou $27 in my area. Also the Myoplex Lite are really good. They have 20gm of protein! A little more expensive, the case only as 18pks also at Sam's.
azbandedmama 0 Posted May 7, 2012 Do you mix the GNC shake with Water or milk? I have a bit of a lactose intolerance. I know another fellow used Atkins Advantage shakes. I actually found that once I stopped eating the rest of the crap I had in my diet that I no longer have the lactose intolerance that I did before and I am now incorporating 2 cups of milk into my shakes everyday. Cindysmom (Ilene) 130 Posted May 7, 2012 I would not have the milk, I think the shakes have milk inside the powder already. I still use Atkins and also Premier Protein. --They both have low carbs, and low sugar. You want high Protein and low carbs. That is the secret...Drink lots of Water.. Also please for all your sakes. Do not get constitpated. You will be VERY SORRY I mean this info for now and right after surgery. Those pain pills make you constipated.....YOU Will BE very sorry.... good luck. Heathermarie0407 67 Posted May 8, 2012 I was told that bananas are ok but not encouraged, berries are preferred because bananas have more sugar. So maybe a banana every few days.
Lilbelly 31 Posted May 8, 2012 Well I only use a 1/2 of banana...I will ask my dr. But thanks for the reply!
OCLadyLori 3 Posted May 20, 2012 I have the ones from costco and I do enjoy the taste of them. I have found very few that I like the flavor of. I understand what Chamie is saying. The instructions do not give you definate instructions on how much or what quantites to take of these items. Yes they give us a list but do not say... You are allowed 3 of these and 1 of these per day. We are here making changes in our lives and it's frustrating enough with all the "requirements" we have to do before our paperwork can be submitted to our Insurance Company and then the wait for the word on if it was approved or not. But to be told to go on liquid diet without some guidelines on what our limits should be calorie wise or oz wise just adds to the frustration. We want to do the right thing and not blow it because we didn't know something. We all need support not attitude. Thank you for remembering that.
mdfinch 24 Posted May 20, 2012 Hi! I have a few questions. I have been directed to follow a 2 week pre-op diet instead of the recommended 3 day pre-op diet by my surgeon due to my higher BMI. But I am not pleased with the instructions. Here is all I got: [/font] 2 weeks of this?? Any suggestions? Yep, That sounds like the diet I was on before surgery and I think a few others also had this diet.
daisychains7 427 Posted May 20, 2012 I will give you guys struggling through the pre op diet hope: It is SO much easier after surgery to follow the liquid diet. You will have no interest in food for a few days, and once you do, knowing you would be physically ill if you eat solid food makes it a heck of a lot easier to avoid. Please hang in there because it will get easier soon.

Scooby_Who 5 Posted May 21, 2012 Chamie - That sounds nearly exactly the same as the pre-op diet I'm following. No fruit, no juice, no vegetables, nothing. What's interesting with me is that the office dieticians told me two weeks, very strict, etc; but the the surgeon said only one week is okay, that I can have a small amount of lean Protein per day, and ... get this ... don't tell the dieticians he told me that! So for the first week I've been doing liquids (including protein shakes) + very low carb diet. On Weds, I start liquids only. I will be honest, it's been very, very hard. I've been very light-headed and nauseous.
