I had my surgery on 4/26 and went back to work one week later. The day before going back to work I had my post op over the phone with the nurse practitioner at the surgeons office. I have had no problems (other than the mild port pain). She moved me from mushies to soft solids. It is so good to be eating real food again even if it is mostly soft. I have enjoyed chicken salad, egg salad, baked tilapia, mashed potatoes and shredded chicken. It has really been heaven after all the liquids and mush. I am eating pretty small portions using 6oz yogurt containers as my "tuppperware" now which seems to be just about the right size (dont fill it all the way up). I am getting full pretty fast but as the days go on, feeling the lack of restriction so the swelling is definitely going away. I have lost 18# since the pre-op diet and 10 overall inches. My abdomen is still swollen and larger than when I had surgery so still bloated from the gas I guess.

Just wanted to share with those that just got banded that it does get better and success can come quickly! It is keeping me motivated.

Off to try a few minutes on my elyptical trainer to see how that feels.

Susan

TY susan While i know we are each diffrent and heal diffrent its nice to see how someone else is doing so we know a little what to expect. I bought stuff today to make my mushies with. Refried Beans, potatos etc... So that next week i can start on that level. I am really looking forward to a scrambled egg. Today its potato Soup and slim fast shakes. I am very bloated and feel 8 mos preg with my stomach out so much. Oh well when it all goes away i will feel much skinner lol.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
