Need Advice From Banded Vets!!

Recommended Posts

I agree with everyone above. I would add that you might consider counseling of some sort with someone who understands weight issues. The band is great, especially when you get to the right fill. However, most of us also deal with years of mental & emotional issues about food, weight, body image, etc. I aso have had (and still do) doubts about whether I can get to goal or close to it. Now that I'm several months out & have lost almost 80 lbs I feel a lot better. Therapy has worked well for me. Good luck! You can do it!

First of all congrats on your weight loss that is AMAZING!! Very happy for you :) also thanks for the suggestion for counseling. Any suggestions as to where I could go to find one that specializes in weight issues?? I guess I've been in denial that I have and emotional issues attached to food until recently...

Because you are nine days post op, your band probably isn't filled. The process if filling the band gradually will make you more restricted. My team of surgeons, etc suggested I practice eating smaller bites, chewing slowly. I'm glad i did now that I'm filled at 5.5cc I understand what restriction really means, after a year. It will all make sense as you progress:) good luck

First I would check with your doctor and see if he or she has any recommendations. Then I would try searching online for professionals in your area. You need to research it and try & find a good fit. There may also be groups that are led by professionals. It's a life long process. I wish you all the best!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
