Can I ask why were not supposed to do that? Have you done it before?

I have gotten used to it, I just play on the pc for half hour after eating. lol

the reason you don't drink half hour prior and after is so you do not wash the food thru your band.

It helps you stay full longer! It works for me! I am almost 10 months post op and down almost 65 pounds!

It is not that bad once you get used to it.

I practiced not drinking with my meals a couple weeks before my liquid diet. I thought it was going to be really hard form me but it really wasn't. honestly, when I'm eating my meal, it doesn't take much to feel a little stuck if I swallow too quickly or take too big of a bite. If I were to try to drink something, it would literally come out my nose. I don't even put a beverage on the table because it's strictly habit to grab a glass during a meal. If it's not there, you don't miss it. If I'm in a restaurant, i don't even let them bring me Water. If they insist, I move it out of reach. I used to love ice cold water or tea but I really don't even enjoy them that much anymore. I struggle to get even half of my water intake each day. I have to put a note on my computer at work to remind myself to drink during the day. Yikes...that reminds me.. ha ha.

Keep working at it, it get's easier!

I drink right up to the time I start eating. I find my food choices now are less salty. I used to be a huge beverage drinker during meals (esp. soda when I was eating out). Choose foods that are less salty and you won't miss beverages.< /p>

All depends upon how many fills you have had and how much resriction you have.

If you are in the Green Zone, with adequate rstriction....food will sit in your pouch longer, passing through you band slowly.

There is just so much room in your pouch without stretching it out.

When you have food sitting there, adding Water on top of it would be disasterous....it can hurt, it can stretch your pouch, and it will more than likely come right back up becaus it has nowhere to go.

It does not wash food down...It can, but then you probably don't have that much restriction if it does.

In the beginning, you might get away with it and it will be a rule that makes no sence. Do it later on in your journey and you will regret it!!!

I was always able to drink when i ate until my last fill. Now if i even take a sip after eating it makes me throw up. I don't miss it any more because drinking with my meal is now an unpleasant experience.

I physically CAN'T drink while eating - I'll throw it all back up immediately. I drink right up to the point of eating and always wait at least 45 minutes to an hour (or whenever I feel that the food is lower) to drink. I've had this since I've had restriction 5 mths after getting the band (I'm 2 1/2 yrs into it). Now, I can sip coffee or hot liquids while eating but not enuf to even count it as drinking. But the first time I tried to wash down my salad with diet coke (I know, also a no no but I drink it occasionally) - out it came ijmmediately in the public restroom.

Good luck!

This, exactly. My surgeon even predicted it. Told me I can drink with meals, but at some point it would become uncomfortable for me.

I have never seen a reasonable explanation for this. I've never had this rule, nor followed it.

I agree. If I am thirsty I often have a drink just before I eat as I know I shouldn't be drinking again for a while.

My dietician did try to explain once. Something about if you are drinking before the liquid may fill you up so you eat less than you need and will then get hungry again sooner than you should. I suppose it does make some sense as we( everyone not just bandsters) are often told to have a big glass of Water if we think we are hungry as it can help to fill you up.

I got it... Makes sense. I thought it had something to do with maybe loosening the band.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
