What Size Portions Were You Eating Between Surgery And Your First Fill?

Recommended Posts

This is greatly helpful for me. I will be five weeks post op on Monday and about to go crazy. My surgeon and bariatric coordinator both stated I wouldn't have my first fill until 6 weeks afterwards which is May 15th. Right now I have to consume at least 100 grams in Protein Shake before I even eat Soup which is hard. Since my surgery, I have lost 16 pounds and the scale isn't moving as much. I know I was wrong but tonight I had two chicken strips and four fries...and what an awful feeling because I knew better but can we say I was full. Let me just say for the next 11 days until my fill, I am going to get back at it since I can start soft Protein on tomorrow which will only be breakfast: 8oz protein (32 grams), 4 oz of grilled salmon and 1/2 cup of brocolli, 8oz protein (32 grams) for snack and dinner.< /p>

My doctor told me not to exceed 1/4 cup (2oz) at one sitting for the first month after the band. He reasoned that although the pouch he created can hold 1/2 cup (4 oz) that while I am healing to fill the pouch could tear the sutures that he put in place on the fold that went over the band to hold it in place.

I always see people eating more than that. I have stuck to the 2 0z...but check with your doctor as my doctor may have been trying to scare me straight. I am self pay and I can't afford a revision. Either way more than a cup a time seems excessing for your little baby pouch...be careful. I always hate that our docs give us so much conflicting info.

i hate it too that we see such conflicting advice from drs. i wish there was a uniform protocol with them all, no matter where they are.

I feel like I'm probably not consuming enough after reading this thread. I'm having a Protein Shake for Breakfast, 2 Oz of baked potato Soup for lunch and I just started adding in one soft scrambled egg for dinner, before that I was having two Oz of egg drop soup for dinner. Maybe one sugar free Jello a day. I'm down 10.5 pounds in 11 days. 39 pounds to go.

I don't know where I came up with the 2Oz serving. But it's perfect for now. I only get hungry if I don't eat for more than 5 hours.

I don't know where I came up with the 2Oz serving. But it's perfect for now. I only get hungry if I don't eat for more than 5 hours.

im finding im eating a good cup full now. If its Soup im having a coffee cup full. solids about a cup. im hungry a lot of the time. i had a scrambled egg for breakfast... was hungry again by 11, thats about three hours. ive made home made soup and put beef broth, salsa, three tins of Beans and chick peas in with some onion and slow cooked all day yesterday. its good but not filling enough. i notice here that someone said that a full burger is too much in one sitting? ive had one chicken burger cut up in one meal... its definately too much by the sounds of it. i know that Im not supposed to eat this much, its very hard not to. im finding that as i get full the pain comes back into my left shoulder blade. thats a signal to stop.Ro, perhaps, its a signal that ive overeaten ??

I was banded 4-18 and im on mushies and spreadable meats that I can put on melba toast and im doing about 4 hours before im hungry, just depends on the density of what I ate. I gotta tell you though, that 1/2 cup...is rough for me right now. I'm trying to focus on making sure im drinking and keeping myself hydrated (which is a challenge for me) so that im not tricked into thinking im hungry when im thirsty. Im sure im still in healing mode, but I am getting hungry and my first fill is not until the 17th. Ive lost 15 pounds since surgery( is that good, average, do i need to work out more) and the scale hasnt moved by pounds in 2 days, only ounces. Sigh...

I was banded on 4/24, and I'm in the mushies stage of post-op diet. Today, I had 2 scrambled eggs with 1/2 can of tuna for breakfast at 9AM this morning, and I was full virtually all day. I had 3 scrambled eggs and the other 1/2 can of tuna for dinner at 7PM, and I'm done for the day.

im still at mushies too, im getting tired of eggs and grilled fish (not together) seems like its all i eat, tho i know i eat a few other things lol. whatever i eat tho, i usually last about 4 hrs..but the last 2 or 3 days, i found myself hungery after about 3 hours but would force myself to hold out to 4 or sometimes 5 hrs before eating again...im pretty sure i will be doing my first fill shortly after starting solids..which i start this weekend.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
