I keep hearing about chia seeds as being the new "superfood". From what I've read, they contain Omega 3s and are a complete Protein, but I also read that they expand in the stomach, which sounds like it could be dangerous for bandsters. Has anyone had any experience with these? Are they really worth trying?

I have read a lot about chia on wikipedia and other places like the LA times, NY times, forums etc. My 12 yr old is tired a lot because he can't get the nutrients that a growing boy should get. Is something like Chia gets, drinks etc like these something good that I could put in his lunch this or are they just the next fad?

If you leave chia seeds in Water, they expand and form a gel. But its not a huge expansion. I certainly wouldnt worry about that - if you do the same with metamucil or psyllium, that expands a lot more.

Besides you dont eat spoonsfulls at a time. They're very tiny.
