Feeling As If I Have A Lot On My "plate"

Recommended Posts

With a month until surgery I'm feeling somewhat overwhelmed. Cardio appointment, surgical clearance appointment, lab work appointment, 2 hour pre surgery informational thingy... also the pre surgery diet. 500-600 calories... I just feel a rush of emotions about it all. The excited emotion always comes out on top! Although, I do wonder/worry how it'll all pan out. Advice and tips are welcome and appreciated. How do you all woosaaa when feeling overwhelmed? I know looking to the future and the end goal is worth all the stress in the world... it is just cloudy getting there.

I know how you feel. I've gotten through all my appointments, but being 5 days away from surgery I am now having mini panic attacks about never being able to eat a whole burger (my favorite food) again, or using food to deal with my emotions, and stuff like that. I get so sad even looking at food commercials or restaurants right now. I think feeling overwhelmed is normal with a big life change, especially when we have failed at this in the past. I pray, I come on these boards, talk to my sister, play with my dog to get my mind off of it. Someone on here told me "You didn't gain this weight overnight, and you won't lose it overnight" - how true. Don't put so much pressure on yourself. There will be ups and downs and a year or two from now, you will be better for it.

Also, make a list of the 20 reasons you want to lose weight. It can be anything from riding rollercoasters to avoiding health problems. I read mine when I am feeling anxious and it gets me thinking positive again.

Feel free to message me any time :)

we all felt the same fear & excitement, so normal!!! the food memories need to go away, they will ruin the good stuff that is coming. I don't go to any drive thrus anymore, it"s been hard but I try to bring something good for me in the car, in case I have to eat.

You will get used to all of this "stuff", keep reading the post on this forum. so many good ideas and support.

I'm two weeks post-op and STILL overwhelmed! haha. First it was all the appointments, then when those were over it moved on to the preop diet, then the surgery, then the post op diet, etc... Each milestone has brought confidence and a little freak out about what's next. I guess that's the nature of the beast. But the good news is that I FEEL much better. I'm sharper, better able to concentrate, more awake, lighter going up subway stairs, and I think I've even gone down a clothing size. My pants are super loose and would fall off if I didn't have a belt... Lost 26lbs in the preop diet and first week post-op, get weighed again next Thursday and we'll see how much I've lost since then... But it's definitely worth it.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
