Medifast 5 & 1 Plan

Recommended Posts

I'm scheduled for surgery on the 24th of May and I was curious about a program called medifast that have meal plans and products tailored for bariatric patients. Have anyone tried this program and if so how do the food taste?

I did it for my pre-op diet. It pretty well sucks in my opinion, but I lost 8 lbs in two weeks (I was at a lower BMI to start). My doc was very impressed with my achievement and told my DH that he could tell I stuck to it by the looks of my liver. It was very small and easy for him to maneuver around during the surgery, making it much safer for me.

I did like the fact that it allowed for a "lean and green" meal each day, so I got to eat some real food.

Thanx for the information.

My daily schedule is so hectic I'm use it having most of my meals on the go. I guess I'm just not use to preparing meals ahead of time and the medifast program was gonna help me where time is concerned. Its going to take some hard work on my part to slow down and pay more attention to what I'm eating. I guess I'll sample a few of their products.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
