Lap Band With Gastric Plication

Recommended Posts

Shy2012: I would love to share my "tips" but I really don't have any. I try to follow my doctors directions - very low carbs' date=' no sweets, no fruits..bunches of Water and Decaf tea, lots of protien (he likes beef products as it makes you feel fuller) and the big one - 30 minutes everyday of some sort of exercise. I chose to walk. I was heavy and 60 yrs old so some forms of exercise were not in play. I have done 4 - 5K walks. I try to walk every day but that being said - I am tired of walking and I am sagging in spots now so I have joined a gym near my house and I am doing some other things - weight resistant stuff and things to tighten belly, upper arms etc. I feel great and know that I can do this now. I have eaten someof the bad stuff lately and for that I have paid a price (PB) but I am hanging in there and I come to this website for encouragement and venting. I work full time so I have to work hard at fitting in my exercise, but it is worth it. Good luck to you and stay in touch.

Those are tips! Thanks, my big day is soon- i will keep in touch.

@fnicole....I had no idea that plication exsisted until I went to the seminar my surgeon put on. Apparently its\'s still very new and only certain surgeons do it.

Can you tell me what plication is? I had my lap band in 2005.

I would be happy to answer any questions you have about it being 8 months out from this surgery.

What is plication?

Ok so to those who've had the surgery, is the weight loss in the beginning faster (than with just the band alone)? What's been your experience in the first month or 2 after surgery? I need something to look forward to and set some goals for myself. (my surgery is in 2 weeks)

I lost weight from the very beginning and continued to lose without gaining or going through "bandster hell" for about 5 months. After that I plateaued and even gained just a few pounds so I started getting fills. The scale has started to move down again albeit slowly as I am not quite in the green zone yet. I am fine with that.

I haven't had surgery yet but my surgery will be outpatient. I'm scheduled may 18.

My procedure was outpatient. It was scheduled for 11:15, but was delayed until about 1. I went home about 4:30-4:45.

Hello all! I just had my initial consult today. Unfortunately, my surgeon doesn't do the banding with plication, but there is another surgeon in the group that does. Can anyone tell me the pros/cons of the plication? What and how was your weight loss? I just need some info before I fully decide to switch over to the other surgeon for the plication. Thanks is in advance!

Carol Ann I'm sure everything will go fine. I had mine with plication on the 11th. It wasn't that bad just take your pain meds and get your liquids in. I know everything will be fine and welcome to the journey. Best wishes Tammy

I had the procedure on the 7th. I just had my post-op appt today and I am down 7 lbs since last week. I can start having soft food tomorrow - no more Protein shakes!!!! The first couple days were the worst for me - I didn't have much pain or nausea, thank goodness, but I took the pain meds when I needed it and slept a lot. My biggest piece of advice is to listen to your body, it will tell you what is wrong or what it needs. Good luck and keep us updated!

Dawn

Hi bandedinky. I'm having banded plication on 5/29. The main reasons I decided on this procedure are that the plication helps avoid band slips and also I believe the weight loss in the beginning is faster. I know it's still relatively new procedure, but I trust my doc. I think the cons of the plication are just that it's new and there's no long term research.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
