Chicken Broth

Recommended Posts

Started my pre op liquid diet yesterday and i tried the broth. Unfortunately I felt like vomiting. Is there anything I can do to help with this? Thanks in advance. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

I cannot normal broth. However, cambell's Soup has a chicken broth that tastes MUCH better! I actually enjoy it.

I have also planned to make my own broth after surgery just to take something homey and better.

ya, plain chicken broth is bad. I would buy campbells low sodium broth Soups and strain the noodles or pieces out of them.

Also, Lipton Cup-a-Soup cream of chicken are very good. I also could not stomach the regular broths. I have also heard that people take a sieve and strain chicken noodle Soup and throw the noodles/veggies out. For me, this was too wasteful but would definitely work in a pinch.

Home made is going to be your best bet, the prepared ones in the store taste awful and if you have to watch your sodium intake they generally are extremely high in sodium. I just made a simple broth using chicken breast, onions, cerery and spices. Strain it and let it sit in the refrigerator over night and if there is any fat it will be solid and you can skim that off, put it in some zip lock bags and freeze it so when you need some you pull out a bag to defrost. Hopes this helps and I wish you the best on your upcoming surgery.

I can't tolerate chicken broth in the boxes, but bouillon cubes are ok. Give them a try or make your own chicken broth

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
