Pre-Op Diet Woes & Wows!

Today is my first day of my pre-op diet, and I cant lie i'm so emotional. I'm scared and anxious all at the same time. I'm afraid i'll be hungry, and moody and emotional. Ok so emotional has already kicked in. My mind is playing with my emotions big time right now. I'm such a worry wart anyway, so my mind is going 90 to nothing. I keep trying to tell myself i've been through worse things. Here's for hoping I dont break down crying at work, let's just hope everyone is nice today.

Im sorry girl. :( If you do break down, it's okay. I did and probably will again since I am only halfway through the diet. Lol! I literally feel like my body is rejecting these Protein Shakes (mood swings, Constipation, hunger pains). Once you get emotional, you start wondering "is having the band going to be like this?!" "how will i get through this?". But I actually think this is the hardest part because we need the highest degree of self control, with zero restriction. This is a huuuge change for your body and your hormones are probably all over the place as a result. Have you called your nutritionist or bariatric nurse? They are a good support. We are also here for you whenever you need to vent. Together we will get through this.

I am doing a dry run of the liquid diet.... I know that sounds weird. I actually start on Friday as doctor ordered but on Monday I started doing the shakes and Soup for dinner. Day one I was hungry. Day 2 was soooo much better but I am also allowed unlimited Protein Shakes so I am spacing them and during working hours I am sipping a shake that I have in a frozen cup. I am doing the Atkins shakes and I drink 4 per day. It goes like 7:00am when I leave the house (I use to have my iced latte this time of the morning ) then by 8:30 -9:00 second shake... soup at 11:30-12:00 ish. Shake again at 1:30-2:00 ish and then about 4:00pm to carry me over to dinner.. then I drink a lot of Water in between.. Dinner is around 6:30-7:00 and I am done for the day. I am figuring I am consuming about 1,000-1,200 calories per day and I am getting 60 grams of Protein so I think its a good start.. For me if I space it like this it gets me through the day fine. Its the night time I am struggling with! Hang in there we will all get through this.

Only 1 more day of these liquids until surgery and I could not be happier about it! I've lost 17lbs on the pre op diet. My only complaint is that we have to do liquids again AFTER surgery, but I'd rather suck it up and heal properly then have issues later.

Good Luck ladies on you surgeries let us know how it goes.

I have about 1 1/2 weeks left on my liquid diet. I did ok to start out but then over the weekend I was just so hungry. I think it was because I worked hard this weekend cleaning the house before surgery and things it may have made it harder. So now that I am back at work it is not so bad but the people here keep making all kinds of food to sell during the day because we don’t have a cafeteria for the next two weeks. It makes it hard smelling all that good food.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
