I am two months out (3 weeks pre-op/5 weeks post). I was wondering if anyone's periods were messed up bc of the change in diet, etc. I am cramping so so bad, but no period other than spotting. Is this normal? I hate to go to dr if this will resolve on it's own.

My periods were fine but my doctor said not uncommon for periods to be messed up for a few months following surgery.

I had issues with mine and I just was banded less then a month ago. I felt like my band was to tight and was very uncomfortable. I called my doctor he told me my hormones were out of whack and to take it easy. The first day was rough, but after that I was fine. Some say it is due to less calories and body weight dropping. My body was/is confused.

Mine were horrid! The first one was late, and then I was an emotional wreck for the next one. I had really bad cramping before though (I'd dream I was in labor the night before it started), and didn't notice a different in cramps until this past one. The cramps were less, and there was no PMS this time around, and I am grateful for that.

Keep in mind I was banded at 40. My periods were heavy and I went from being every 28 days to every 21 days sometimes less. 5 months post op I had two periods in one month. I have been taking 65 mg Iron to deal with anemia.

The second month after surgery I barely had one...they were light for a few months....but now they ate more than my typical two or three days. Sometimes they are four days and heavier!!!!ugh oh well worth it all.

glad you brought this up. I have fibroids( very small), but my periods are not typically heavy. I was banded on 4-18. On 4-27, the DAM BROKE! I think this was partly due to me getting off of the Nuvaring the month before per my surgeon. my periods are usually 5 days long. im interested to see what happens now.

I had mine a week and a half after my surgery and mine was incredibly heavy. I didn't have any cramps at all and it was several days early.

I have to stop taking the pill before surgery. I'm assuming my cycle will be a little crazy for the next couple of months...not looking forward to that! Does anyone know how soon we can go back on the pill again after surgery? I'll have to ask my doc.

My doc didn't have me stop at all. I even took my pill the day of my surgery (after I was discharged) per my surgeon.

Well here is my story i didnt receive a period for 2 months i was so mad because i wanted to have the mirena in place before my surgery. I had pregnancy test done several of times and they all came back negative. So i decided to take provera almost three weeks before surgery. after taking provera i still didnt get a period. I had my surgery on 4/25/12 i got my period the next day. I felt like someone gutted me open. my period ended one day after my first doctor visit which was 5/03/12. When i weighed in it showed i lost 8lbs when i know i lost more than that. Could it be that i was bloaded thats why it didnt show as much weight loss.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
