Question Regarding Stretching Pouch

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone! So I was recently banded 4/20/12 and did great with my pre-op diet and week one post op surgery. But this past weekend I ate bad and grazed quite a bit. So my question is can I "stretch my pouch" if I am not filled? The NP told me that I can but I have read otherwise on the web. Thanks for any responses.

I am no medical professional, but have to imagine you would need to eat A LOT to stretch your pouch at this time. In the future when your pouch is tight and the food can't be easily pushed through, then yes... Now, no.

I dont think grazing will stretch your band so much as eating large quantities of food over a longer period of time, not just a bad weekend !. You are dealing with no restriction at the moment so make sure u eat either 3 meals a day or 5 smaller meals and drink your Water and eat your Protein first. I would just try to maintain your weight till u start getting your fills done so u get used to making good choices food wise.

weight watchers Tomato Soup is a great filler and only 70 cals same as just skimmed milk drink so if u do need to graze a bit just make sure u graze on low cal food with protein if possible like milk, greek yoghurt etc all 0 fat :)

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
